The success of the League of Women Voters is all about building partnerships and coalitions. We work to establish these relationships everyday with our legislators, our voters, our neighbors and most importantly, our members. Become a member, join a committee, or attend and bring a guest to an event. Take advantage of the commitment and knowledge of our members.
Our Membership (OPEN HOUSE) Meetings will start again this spring. We can't wait to meet you and your guests for this opportunity to get to know each other and learn more about the League.
The future of Pocopson Home is being considered by Chester County Commissioners due to the proposed 4 percent cut in Medicaid payments included in Gov. Tom Corbett's budget. There is a public meeting Monday, May 14, 7pm at the Downingtown High School East Auditorium, 50 Devon Drive in Uwchlan for countians to voice their opinions. Options under consideration include:
- County continues to run Pocopson and taxpayers pay for the shortfall
- Transfer its operations to a non-profit corporation, under which the county would continue to fund all operating losses
- Lease it to a private, for-profit operator, under which the county would continue to exert some role in Pocopson
- Sell the facility outright to a private entity
Learn more about Pocopson Home's future.
CONGRATULATIONS!

League Members Make a Difference Volunteering
Long time League Members, Edith and Tom Swoboda feel that if you have the opportunity to do something for someone else, you should do it. They have spent
the last 11 years as participants in the tutoring program sponsored by the Oxford
Educational Foundation. As nonagenarians they have worked with fifth and sixth grade students two days a week during school hours tutoring in all subjects for two hours.
They have become very much a part of the Hopewell School family and Tom also plays his trombone with the school bands whenever possible. This couple has shared what some consider to be the golden years of retirement with students so that their education
is given support to make the students' years in school golden. The League of Women Voters of Chester County applauds these two members as Volunteers who make a difference.
