THE LATEST NEWS FROM THE LEAGUE

The League of Women Voters reminds all voters during this exciting primary season that they can still participate in Pennsylvania’s Primary Election on April 22.

March 24 - Last Day to Register to Vote!
Pennsylvania has a closed primary system which requires all voters to be registered in either the Republican or Democratic Party to participate. Independents and those wishing to change their party affiliation have until March 24, 2008, to register. Voter registration forms can be found online at www.votespa.com or at a local library, municipal building, state liquor store or post office. Call the Delaware County Election Bureau at 610-891-4673 for further information.

Absentee ballots may be used. To get an application, voters may go to the Election Bureau during the business day or go to www.votespa.com. Once the application is properly completed, it must be taken or mailed to the County Board of Elections. This office then mails an absentee ballot to the applicant. The absentee ballot must be properly filled out and returned to the Board of Elections by April 15 before 5 p.m.

Find out who is running and more about the candidates and their positions at SmartVoter.org. Type in your street address and zip code and get your own personal ballot with a link to your polling place.

Meetings
All League meetings are open to the public and the League hopes you will come and see "civil discourse" in action. Only when we are reaching consensus (reaching a position for future lobbying) is the meeting somewhat closed. Only members can speak at a consensus meeting (ex. our January Immigration consensus meetings) but the public is welcome to attend and learn how our 87 year old, time tested process works!

Our Health Care Luncheon Series continues at 12 noon at Picasso's in Media on March 28th. E-mail for reservations.
