Democracy Is Not A Spectator Sport - Vote On Election Day! Polls indicate that many eligible voters don't vote because the find the process confusing or intimidating. We hope to the following information will help you understand the election process better and increase voter turnout! First you need to be registered. You must be: • A citizen of the US for at least 1 month before the next election Many register as they apply for a drivers license but Registration forms are available at all Libraries and state Liquor stores and online. Do not wait until the last minute. It can take several days to process your registration form if there are many applications. The last day to register to vote is October 9th! If you are not sure you can be at the polls on election day, you may apply for and file an absentee ballot. Rules have changed in recent years and you no longer have to be out of town to use an absentee ballot. If you decide you want to vote at the polls, tell the election officials at the Polls and your absentee ballot will be removed and you will vote using the voting machine. Our County uses the the Danaher 1242 voting machines. the County Bureau of Elections has an on-line video to help you learn how to use it. Poll workers will also be glad to answer questions and and demonstrate a feature that is unclear to you. The League also has several publications:
Your polling place is listed on your Voter Registration card but is also available on-line through the PA Department of state web site. If you are a first time voter, you must bring the proper ID. If you name can not be found on the list of registered voters at the polls when you go to vote, you may vote a provisional ballot. This should be used as a last resort, as there are instances where your provisional ballot may not be counted. Call the League phone at 610-449-0977, if you have further questions.
