- Lobbyist Disclosure & Public Transit
From: Lora Lavin, Government Specialist, lavin@steuber.com

President, sbroughton@macconnect.com
We urge you to contact your
legislators ASAP on these TWO important issues. The legislative session
is drawing to a close and bills which have not
passed will die at the end of the session on November 30. Thank you for
your attention!

Specialist, lavin@steuber.com
There is a serious possibility
that the Legislature will end its session
without passing bills pending in the Pennsylvania Senate and House (SB1
and HB 2080) to restore the requirement that lobbyists register and disclose
the amount they spend to influence state government decisions. Your action
is urgently needed. If you have not already done so contact your State
Representative and Senator immediately. If appropriate remind them of
their
expressed support for legislation to restore lobbyist disclosure. Remind
them they should attend to this important good government issue before
they
even consider voting themselves a pay raise.
BACKGROUND
Since 2002 when the Pennsylvania Supreme Court declared Pennsylvania's
Lobbyist Disclosure Act unconstitutional, there has been no requirement
lobbyists register and disclose their expenditures. As a result Pennsylvania
is almost unique in having no law requiring disclosure by individuals
and organizations that spend significant sums of money to influence state
government decisions.
#2 - From Sue Broughton, 1st
Vice President, sbroughton@macconnect.com
This legislative session is
rapidly drawing to a close but there is still
time for the legislature to pass legislation guaranteeing a dedicated
and
adequate funding stream for public transit systems across the state. This
is
an issue that affects all Pennsylvanians because we cannot have a healthy
economy with failing and shrinking public transportation systems!
