Developers and Resource Council  

Kids Around TownŽ (KAT)  was developed by the League of Women Voters of Pennyslvania's Citizenship Education Fund in cooperation with Sharon Kletzien, Ph.D., Chair of the Department of Literacy, School of Education, West Chester University. 

Developers

Sharon B. Kletzien, Ph.D, Director, is the chair of the Department of Literacy at West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania. She taught in public schools for fifteen years before joining the West Chester faculty. Her doctorate is in Educational Psychology from Temple University, her M.A. in International Studies from American University, and her B.A. from West Texas State University. She has been a member of the League of Women Voters of Springfield Area for twenty years and has served in many different capacities, including president. Sharon is active in several national educational organizations and has numerous publications. Her primary interests are reading, language arts and civic education.

Ann L. Rappoport, Ph.D., Director, is a freelance writer and educational program consultant. Her doctorate is in political science from Ohio State University; she graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Oberlin College. Ann currently teaches in the School of Education at Temple University; she has also taught both government and writing at Temple and elsewhere in the Philadelphia region.  Mother of three (now also a proud grandma) and community activist, Ann has run a Montessori pre-school/kindergarten, served as elected consumer representative on the Health Systems Agency of Southeastern Pennsylvania, and has held numerous positions in the League of Women Voters of Abington-Cheltenham-Jenkintown, and on community and strategic planning bodies in Cheltenham School District. In addition to writing for regional and national publications, Ann coordinates educational and advocacy programs for adults who have developmental disabilities and was recipient of a 1994 Brighter Futures Award from the Office of Mental Retardation of the City of Philadelphia. Ann co-authored The Therapist's Toolbox II (Secaucus, N.J.: Childswork/Childsplay, 1998).

Under the LWVPA-CEF's Board of Trustees, the KAT Steering Committee has been fortunate to benefit from an extraordinary Resource Council, members of which have the expertise and prestige of the respected statewide organizations they led in the late 1990s.
