Welcome to the League of Women Voters of the Lewisburg Area website.Let us explain a little about our organization.

The League of Women Voters was founded in 1920 as an outgrowth of the suffragist movement. When women were finally granted the right to vote, League founders decided that the responsibility of those newly enfranchised citizens to be informed voters was important. The purpose then and now is to present information to citizens so that they can make informed decisions when they go to the polls.

The League is organized at three levels: national, state, and local. Belonging to one automatically enrolls a person in all three, but typically most members are active in their local League and receive support materials from the state and national organizations. Leagues operate by studying issues, taking positions on those issues, and promoting those positions by lobbying government officials, developing educational materials, and holding public meetings. The League is a non-partisan organization; therefore it takes positions only issues. We never support a party or candidate.

Our local League was founded in 1954. We have maintained a vibrant and dedicated membership for 50 years! We invite you to find out more about us by calling (570) 524-4439 or emailing us at stravis@ptd.net. We hold meetings that are open to anyone on the third Tuesday of each month where speakers offer information on a variety of national, state, and local issues. Join us for a buffet luncheon, cost $10 at 11:30 a.m., or stop in at noon if you wish only to hear the presentation
