About The League of Women Voters of Lower Merion and Narberth The League of Women Voters was organized in 1920 after the passage of the 19th amendment which gave women the right to vote. The League was formed by Carrie Chapman Catt and others in order to assist women in exercising the right to vote and to study issues of public interest, come to a consensus on a position and to take the necessary action. This mission now extends to all citizens in the ongoing effort to make democracy work. Men are welcomed as members in the League even though its name reflects its historical origins. Why We Do It The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan organization which helps us to by-pass the jumble of partisan politics and work together with women and men to study issues we care about. As a local league, we are part of a nationwide network of leagues, organized in the same way as governments, with local, inter-local, state, and national levels and officers. The League of Women Voters of Lower Merion and Narberth meets most second Mondays at 1:00 PM, excluding summer months. The League offers us a chance to disseminate important voter information and awareness of issues including Voters Guides-that offer non-partisan information about candidates for office in your area, as well as national, state and local issues.
