MISSION: The League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

Information for Voters for Primary Election, May 19, 2009

  • Voters Guide to candidates for offices in Allegheny County, City of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh School District. This is the League's traditional voter guide in which candidates submit a short biography and an answer to a question posed by the League.
  • Smart Voter: a guide to candidates for the offices of mayor, council member, commissioner, and supervisor in Allegheny County municipalities, school director in Allegheny County school districts, statewide and Allegheny County courts, and magisterial district judges. The League sent invitations to post information to over 1000 candidates. Candidates are asked to post at least a short biography and their priorities if elected. In addition, they may post a list of endorsers, campaign contact information including a link to their own web page, an extended biography, a description of their political philosophy, and three position papers on issues of their choice.
  • A brief election overview and FAQ.

The League thanks the Good Government Award corporate, academic and other sponsors and attendees at the 2008 award dinner for their support.

Save the date to attend the League of Women Voters Good Government Award dinner: Thursday, November 5, 2009.

Facts for Citizens 2009: a guide to your elected officials. Find out who represents you and how to communicate with them. Another resource for communicating with elected officials are the district maps and contact information published by Duquesne Light in the Use Your Voice booklets (PDF format). Select Allegheny County or Pittsburgh City Council for local officials. There is also a guide for Beaver County.
