MISSION:
The League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh,
a nonpartisan political organization, encourages the informed and
active participation of citizens in government, works to increase
understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public
policy through education and advocacy.
Mock Election Sofware Design Challenge: Under
a grant from the U.S. Election
Assistance Commission, the League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh
will be holding mock elections
in high schools throughout Allegheny County in November. In connection
with this project, the League is sponsoring a contest for high school
students to develop software that mimics a voting machine, but can
be run on computers available in schools. Details

a grant from the U.S. Election
Assistance Commission, and in cooperation with Greater Pittsburgh
Student Voices, the League will be conducting Mock Elections
in schools in 2010. As a pilot project, 20 students from Propel
Schools participated in a mock version of the November 2009 general
