Voting Machines in Allegheny County

In 2006, The League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh submitted to the Allegheny County Board of Elections the results of a survey of League members and poll workers concerning problems that voters encountered during the November 2006 election. The League has continued in 2007 with a series of three small discussion groups in which invited participants exchanged thoughts on the election process. Allegheny County Council has appointed a Citizens' Election Systems Advisory Panel. This Panel has submitted to Council an initial report. An additional report will be submitted in December. The primary recommendation of the initial report is that Allegheny County shall have voting machines that have a voter-verified paper record, meet federal 2005 accessibility guidelines, and are subject to election-day and post-election audits by the November 2008 election.

The League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh (LWVGP), serving the Greater Pittsburgh area in southwestern Pennsylvania, is a part of the League of Women of the United States (LWVUS) and the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania (LWVPA). A unique activist network of 150,000 members and supporters nationwide, the LWV is organized in more than a thousand communities in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
