Federal Money Matters Forum

Residents invited to ‘Federal Money Matters’ forum on July 16

A “Federal Money Matters” forum will present the needs of southern York County organizations, agencies and individuals to U.S. and PA legislators and to the public on Wednesday, July 16.

Approximately 15 representatives will appear in a panel 6:30-8:30 p.m. that evening to describe their views regarding the importance of support given to date by the federal government and the impact elimination or curtailment of those funds will have as defined by the now-adopted U.S. budget.

Sponsored by the League of Women Voters, the forum will be held in the auditorium of South Eastern Middle School (the former Kennard-Dale High School) at 375 Main Street, Fawn Grove.

The event is planned as a nonpartisan, non-adversarial activity. Expected to present information on the panel are representatives from regions of Delta, Stewartstown and Red Lion--school districts, human services agencies, senior centers, municipal engineering firms, parks programs, and other entities.

A parent will explain the impact Medicaid has upon her family, and Natalee Gunderson, president of York County Community Foundation, will describe the immense effect losing government funding will have on nonprofit agencies. Invited are United States Senators John Fetterman and David McCormick, as well as U.S. Representatives Scott Perry and Lloyd Smucker.

Since withdrawal of federal financial support could impact state governments, Pennsylvania legislators have also been invited, including Governor Josh Shapiro, Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill and Representatives Wendy Fink and Mike Jones.

Following the panel presentation and questions or remarks by elected officials, members of the public may ask questions or express views.

The League will conduct voter registration during the forum evening.

The League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania is proud to be nonpartisan, neither supporting nor opposing candidates or political parties at any level of government, but always working on vital issues of concern to members and the public. Its mission during the past 100 years is to “empower voters and defend democracy.”

More information on additional panelist still to come.
