Film Screening and Discussion on the Realities of Local Election: The Officials

Film Screening and Discussion on the Realities of Local Election: The Officials
October 8 | 7:00–8:00 PM
Via Zoom (Virtual ONLY)

Come join us for this free LWV watch party for The Officials, a 26-minute documentary on the challenges election officials encounter released by Time Magazine. The event will happen on Zoom on Wednesday, October 8th at 7-8PM EST. The event is open to League members and the public!

We will watch the film together with its directors, and afterwards we will be moderating a panel with the following guests:

  • New Mexico Secretary of State, Maggie Toulouse Oliver

  • Jeanette Senecal, Chief of Civic Learning & Impact LWVUS

  • Local election officials featured in the film: Tonya Wichman(OH), Janice Winfrey(MI), and Daniel Baxter(MI).

Inspired by LWV’s Election Hero Day campaign, this event is part of our support of election officials.  The film was made with bipartisanship in mind and features local election officials from multiple parties. The film’s framework is nonpartisan, though it may highlight ideological threats around election officials based on mis and disinformation.

Following the film, we will share ways for local League members to show the film in their communities or host their own panels on the topic. Please invite members of your local League or others from the public who may want to attend.

Click here to register for the Zoom.
