LWVPA Applauds Commonwealth Court Ruling on Abortion Care

The League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania (LWVPA) applauds the recent Commonwealth Court ruling stating that Pennsylvania’s ban on state Medicaid dollars paying for low-income people’s abortion care is unconstitutional.

“All women should have access to reproductive care no matter their income,” said Susan Gobreski, LWVPA President. “While the fight is not over, this decision is an important win for women in the Commonwealth.”

“The League celebrates this ruling in Pennsylvania,” said Amy Widestrom, LWVPA Executive Director. “The case could be appealed up to the state Supreme Court, but that is not going to stop us from continuing to be a voice for access to reproductive care and women’s autonomy in their healthcare choices.”

The League will continue to monitor the case and advocate on behalf of all women in Pennsylvania.
