Statement on Temporary Court Block on PA’s Carbon Emissions Plan

Last Friday, the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court granted a preliminary injunction temporarily blocking Pennsylvania from participating in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI).  The state court sided with the oil and gas industry coalition that argued that RGGI imposed an unlawful tax.  The League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania sees this issue as a technicality and continues to support RGGI. We await appeal to the PA Supreme Court. Pennsylvania MUST address the climate crisis, and regulating air pollution is one of many needed steps.
