Discussion: Environmental Justice Public Participation Policy

Join LWVPA to discuss the new PA Department of Environmental Protection’s Environmental Justice Public Participation Policy. Justin Dula, the Eastern Regional Coordinator of the Office of Environmental Justice, will give an overview of the revised policy. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions. We will also discuss the policy within the LWVPA diversity, equity and inclusion lens.

Environmental Justice communities are defined as communities where 20 percent of residents live below the federal poverty line and/or 30 percent are non-white minorities. The EJ Public Participation Policy sets guidelines for permit application reviews in these areas. The policy was created to increase engagement in these areas and ensure community members have the opportunity to participate and be involved in decision-making processes involving their neighborhoods.
