Statement from LWVPA on the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC)

In response to the recent departure of several states from Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC), LWVPA states its strong support for ERIC, and encourages state officials to remain a part of this important multi-state election partnership.

ERIC is a nonprofit membership organization created by bipartisan state election officials. Created in 2012, over half of U.S. states belong to the organization, including Pennsylvania. At its core, ERIC works with state election officials to ensure the accuracy of voter rolls and reduce the potential for fraud by helping identify out-of-date voting records.

ERIC is a nonpartisan, state election official-driven resource that helps build and maintain confidence in our elections. By using ERIC, election officials can help assure voters that their state’s voter rolls are accurate and provide assurance that there are safeguards in place to protect the integrity of their state’s election.

ERIC has been praised by organizations and election officials across the political spectrum for its ability to protect election integrity and assist in the smooth administration of elections. Due to a widespread misinformation campaigns, multiple states have recently pulled out of ERIC, with others poised to exit.

This attack campaign against ERIC is part of the ongoing wave of disinformation that is undermining confidence in our elections - perhaps intentionally. ERIC is an important part of our systems of checks and balances. Without it, states risk hurting trust in voter rolls and confidence in the results.

LWVPA strongly supports Pennsylvania’s participation in ERIC and encourages officials and organizations to push back against any misinformation or attacks on this important election system.
